PHD QUALIFYING PROCESS
IZMIR BAKIRÇAY UNIVERSITY INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT DOCTORATE QUALIFICATION PROCESS
Purpose: The qualification exam measures the basic subjects, concepts and scientific research depth of the student in his/her field.
Right to Exam: Students can take the exam a maximum of two times in total, a maximum of once per semester.
Requirement to Take the Exam: Students accepted with a master's degree must take the exam by the end of the fifth semester at the latest. It is mandatory to take the qualification exam by the end of the first semester following the completion of the course period. In order to take the qualification exam, it is necessary to have taken the "IE 997 PhD Qualifying Examination" course.
Application Process: The student submits an application petition to the Department of Industrial Engineering with the approval of his/her advisor within the period specified in the academic calendar. Exam Committee: The qualification exam is organized by the five-person PhD qualification committee, formed upon the recommendation of the Department of Industrial Engineering and the approval of the Institute's Board of Directors.
Jury Formation: Following the approval of the application petition submitted to the Institute, the exam jury form is created and sent to the Institute. The exam jury consists of five faculty members, including the advisor, at least two of whom must be from different higher education institutions. For the exam jury form (LEE-DR-3 Form) Click.
Exam Format: The exam consists of two stages: written and oral. Candidates taking the exam must be indicated with a signed report. Click for the PhD qualification exam attendance sheet (LEE-DR-4).
Success Criteria: Students who receive at least 75 points in the written exam are considered successful and are admitted to the oral exam. A minimum score of 75 points is also required in the oral exam.
Evaluation and Notification: The exam jury determines the student's success by simple majority and the decision is notified to the Institute by the Department of Industrial Engineering within three days at the latest. Click for the PhD qualification exam report (LEE -DR-5 Form).
Failure Status: Students who fail a written or oral exam can only retake the exam from the section they failed. If they fail again, they will be dismissed from the doctoral program.
